The Uniform Corps

The Uniform Corps at Omega comprises of various wings that work together for the overall development of the youth. The various wings in action at Omega are:

      1. Bunnies, Cubs (boys) & Bulbuls (girls), Scouts (boys) & Guides (girls)
      2. National Cadet Corps (NCC)
      3. Road Safety Patrol

The objective of the Scouting movement is to contribute to the development of young people in achieving their full physical, intellectual, social and spiritual capabilities as responsible individuals/ citizens and also as members of the local, national and international communities.

The Boy Scouts movement was begun by Lord Baden Powell in the year 1907. Over the years, the movement has evolved to include other age groups. In 1910, the Guides movement began with the help of his sister, Agnes.
Later, the following groupings with their age ranges were created:

 
  • Bunnies: 3-6 years
  • Cubs & Bulbuls: 6-10 years
  • Scouts & Guides: 10-17 years, and
  • Rovers & Rangers: 15-25 years

Scouting was brought to India by Capt. T. H. Baker in the year 1909, with the first troop in Bangalore, and Guiding started in the year 1911 in Jabalpur.

1. Bunnies, Cubs (boys) & Bulbuls (girls), Scouts (boys) & Guides (girls)

Students from Kindergarten to Grade VIII are taught to realize the objectives by outlining their duties to self, to others and to God. Progressively, the Bunnnies, Cubs & Bulbuls and Scouts & Guides are encouraged to educate themselves through the defined set of promises and laws, learning by doing group and singular activities based on interest and competencies under an adult sentry and patrolling system.

The Scouting movement was started at Omega International School on 15th June 2012, Cubs & Bulbuls on 8th April 2013 and the Bunny unit on 22nd February 2013. Over the years, this movement has grown to 81 units at Omega and is offered to students based on their age group:

  • Bunnies: 3-6 years
  • Cubs & Bulbuls: 6-10 years
  • Scouts & Guides: 10-17 years, and
  • Rovers & Rangers: 15-25 years
2. NCC

The school operates the Junior Division (JDA) NCC for boys and girls of Grades VIII to X since 2008. It is a two year elementary military training programme in the Army Wing of the Junior Division Corps for A level certification. Currently we have over 50 boys and over 20 girls who have enrolled as cadets of the JDA and we have had over 600 boys and girls graduate from the program during their schooling at Omega.

The main focus of the NCC is to instil in the cadets the essence of unity and discipline. It aims to develop qualities of character, courage, comradeship, discipline, leadership, secular outlook, spirit of adventure and the ideals of selfless service amongst the youth of the country. NCC helps to create a human resource of organized, trained and motivated youth to provide leadership in all walks of life and be always available for the service of the nation. It also provides a suitable environment to motivate the youth to take up a career in the Armed Forces.

3. Road Safety Patrol

The Road Safety Patrol was inaugurated on the 6th of December 2018. At present there are over 50 cadets (boys & girls) who have enrolled for the program. Training is done in the school campus by the Tamil Nadu Traffic Warden Officers.
The RSP scheme aims at grooming students in road safety rules, equipping them to become better pedestrians and drivers when they grow up. The students’ exposure in the scheme helps them to understand traffic rules better and share their knowledge with fellow students.

The Scouting movement was started in Omega on 15th of June, 2012, Cubs & Bulbuls on 8th April, 2013, and Bunny unit on 22nd February, 2013.

  • Since its inception at Omega in 2012, 71 Guides have received the Rajapuraskar award and 8 have received the Rashtrapathi award.
  • 102 Scouts have received the Rajapuraskar award and 6 have received the Rashtrapathi award.
  • 52 Bulbuls have received the State Chief Commissioner’s award, and 22 have received the Golden Arrow award.
  • 62 Cubs have received the State Chief Commissioner’s award.
  • 20 Cubs have received the Golden Arrow award.
  • Over the years, 164 JDA cadets and 62 JWA cadets have passed the “A” certificate examination.
  • Cadet Abhimanyu Singh of the first batch JDA passed the NDA and has since joined the Indian Army.
  • In 2015, student Deepthika of JWA was selected for the Republic Day Parade Launch Camp II.
  • In 2017, Sabareesan of JDA attended the Group Firing Competition at Madurai.
  • Our cadet Vignesh was selected for the All India Thal Sainik camp at Delhi, the only cadet selected from our 13th Tamil Nadu battalion. He bagged two gold medals at the event.
  • Over the years, our cadets have been felicitated and received many commendations from the Directorate.
  • During the academic year 2018-19, our NCC band was adjudged the “Best Band” in the Inter School Competition conducted by the Hindustan Int’l School, Chennai.
  • During the academic year 2018-19,, our school bagged the “Overall cultural banner” Trophy at the Cado Fiesta conducted by Dr. Ambedkar Law College, Chennai.
  • Prabhunarayanaswamy. T of class VIII – scouts has participated in quiz competition organised by UNICEF – Earth Champions on World Environment Day.
  • Harini Ananda of class VIII – guides has secured runner up in Paper Craft, has participated in mobile photography and drawing competition organised by The Southern Railway State Bharat Scouts & Guides.
  • Deepak Chandar. T of class X – scouts has successfully passed online quiz organised by Department of Collegiate Education (Government First Grade College) and received an E-Certificate, IQAC initiative conducted from rovers and rangers unit of the college.
  • Shreyas Chakraborthy of class VIII – scouts has successfully passed online quiz organised by Department of Collegiate Education (Government First Grade College) and received an E-Certificate, IQAC initiative conducted from rovers and rangers unit of the college. He has also participated in mobile photography competition organised by The Southern Railway State Bharat Scouts & Guides.
  • Sudeshna Raj of class VIII – guides has participated in quiz competition organised by UNICEF – Earth Champions on World Environment Day.
  • Abirami of class VIII – guides has participated in quiz competition organised by UNICEF – Earth Champions on World Environment Day.
  • Nihal of class VIII – scouts has participated in quiz competition organised by UNICEF – Earth Champions on World Environment Day.
  • Ranen Joseph Solomon of class IX – scouts has participated in drawing competition organisation by Sankalp Project he has also achieved various challenges Plastic Tide Turners Challenge, Health & Wellbeing Challenge, Environment & Sustainability Challenge, Digital Scouting & Guiding Challenge, Earth Hour Challenge #Dinner in the dark, #Game at Night. He has also uploaded 2 videos on creating awareness of novel corona virus. He has successfully passed online quiz organised by Department of Collegiate Education (Government First Grade College) and received an E-Certificate, IQAC initiative conducted from rovers and rangers unit of the college.
  • Sharmila.R (Facilitator) – WOOD BADGE is a scouting leadership programme and the related award for adult leadership in the programmes of Scouts Associations throughout the world. Wood badge courses aim to make Scouters better leaders by teaching advance leadership skills, and by creating a bond and commitment to the scout movement. Himalayan Wood Badge is the prestigious and highest training for the Scouters and Guiders, by which he/she is eligible to train for the Rastrapathi Award.
